Flavor Profile: Pine smoke, Earthy, malty

Lapsang Souchong is renowned for its rich smokiness, sweet pine undertones, and malty aftertaste, offering a distinctive flavor profile that sets it apart. This unique small leaf tea is smoked over pine wood,imbuing it with its characteristic aroma. Harvested from the lower part of the tea plant for a deeper  flavor, the leaves are first roasted on an iron pan before being smoked over resin-rich pinewood. The smoking method originated as a serendipitous accident; needing to dry the tea leaves quickly before the Dutch arrived, the farmers grabbed pine wood, not realizing that the smoke would embed itself in the tea.
