D’Guar Herrera (They/Them) is a tea student and guide for this workshop series. They approach tea as more than just a beverage; for them, tea is a practice of connection, presence, and personal exploration. D’Guar aims to cultivate a safe and welcoming space where participants can deepen their relationship with tea in profound and meaningful ways.
This October at Cup of Tea, we’re diving into the dark, transformative world of Pu-erh, a tea steeped in legend and revered for its alchemy. Earthy, bold, and deeply grounding, Pu-erh is sometimes called the “sorcerer” of the tea world — a tea that shifts and changes with age, revealing hidden depths and unexpected flavors. Fermented and aged, Pu-erh carries the mystery of time itself, turning humble leaves into something powerful, complex, and enduring. Each cup feels like a spell, rich, smooth, sometimes woody, sometimes sweet, always layered with intrigue.
In our Pu-erh Workshops, we’ll explore a flight of remarkable teas: vintage ripe Pu-erh with its dark, velvety body and sweet undertones; young sheng Pu-erh, alive with energy and hints of fruit and smoke; and aged treasures that whisper of forests, cellars, and seasons past.
Together, we’ll uncover the myths, history, and cultural symbolism behind Pu-erh, while tasting how fermentation and time transform this legendary tea. If you’re ready to experience the magic of Pu-erh — ancient, mysterious, and endlessly evolving — this workshop is your invitation.
