Divination: The Myth of White Tea Workshop
This month we are focusing on white tea, a category that captures the raw essence of the tea leaf in its simplest form. With minimal processing and a gentle approach to oxidation, white tea preserves the natural character of the leaf, allowing for a nuanced and evolving experience. It can be light and fresh as spring wildflower blossoms or as deep and honeyed as an autumn orchard with hints of dried fruit, herbs, and warm earth.
Through mindful brewing and tasting, we will explore the versatility of white tea and how it mirrors the simple rhythms of nature. Join us as we uncover how this often overlooked tea serves as both a reflection of nature’s gentleness and an omen of tea’s profound ability to calm the spirit.
$5 from each class participant will be donated to OPAL Environmental Justice Oregon. OPAL’s work aligns with our mindful approach to tea and our commitment to a harmonious relationship with nature. Together, we can help foster a world where all communities are empowered to live sustainably and equitably within the natural world we cherish.
To foster an inclusive and supportive community, we are offering a flexible payment model for this immersive tea class. You can choose between two payment options: $25 or $15, depending on what you can afford. Your generosity helps make this experience accessible to all, contributing to a circle of support that values fairness and inclusion. Together, we can create a community that benefits everyone.
This class is guided by D’Guar Herrera. D’Guar (they/them) is a devoted student of tea based in Portland, Oregon. Their journey with tea began with a search for deeper purpose and connection. Tea found them, offering secrets, mysteries, stories, and spells. Through tea, D’Guar has discovered a profound depth of self, rooted in a mindful devotion to the leaf and a love of sharing this passion with others. Coming from generations of ancestors who stewarded the gifts of the land and listened to the earth’s heartbeat, D’Guar believes that reconnecting with nature through tea is not only vital but also a way to build community and honor the earth.
$5 from each class participant will be donated to Q Center.
Tea is an invitation to presence, connection, and authenticity. These values that also guide the work of Q Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting and uplifting LGBTQ2SIA+ individuals. Just as tea offers a moment of reflection and belonging, Q Center provides vital resources, advocacy, and a safe space for queer and trans people to gather, heal, and thrive.
