– The myth of –
BLACK
This November at Cup of Tea, we’re steeping ourselves in the rich and storied world of black tea — a tea that built empires, crossed oceans, and shaped the course of history. Bold, brisk, and enduring, black tea is the leaf that sparked revolutions and fueled generations. From the misty mountains of China to the rolling gardens of India and Sri Lanka, its story is one of connection, craft, and courage.
Once traded as currency and treasured as luxury, black tea became the drink that united cultures and divided nations. It was at the heart of the Boston Tea Party — an act of protest that forever changed the course of America — and remains the cup that anchors our mornings and our rituals of pause.
In our Black Tea Workshops, we’ll explore a flight of remarkable teas: smooth Darjeeling with its floral lift; malty Assam with its bold warmth; Chinese Keemun with its quiet elegance; and a few rare finds that tell their own stories of place and time.
Together, we’ll trace the global journey of black tea — from leaf to legend — and uncover how oxidation, craft, and culture transformed a simple leaf into the world’s most influential brew. If you’re ready to taste the legacy of trade, protest, and art in every sip, this is your invitation to discover the myth of black tea: timeless, powerful, and steeped in history.
